Laser systems with a semiconductor optical amplifier and optical-power-to-electrical-current feedback

Abstract

We demonstrate, through numerical modeling, stabilization of the pulsed operation of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA)-based fiber laser system by optical-to-electrical feedback, without using saturable absorber elements. The feedback is implemented by sending part of the output optical power after photo-detection to the controller that drives the current of the SOA.
