The regeneration of deactivated hydrotreating catalysts

Abstract

The literature relating to the characterization of hydroprocessing catalysts, their deactivation due to deposition of metal contaminant(mainly Ni and Vv salts), and regeneration processes has been reviewed. Leaching of spent atmospheric residue hydrodesulphurization (ARDS) catalysts and of pure metal sulphides using oxalic, malonic or acetic acidwas studied experimentally. The influence of promoters, was investigated. A comparitive study was made of the selectivity of V removal from pure metal sulphides, and from spent catalyst samples. Catalysts were characterised using X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron microprobe analysis, elemental analysis by ICAP spectroscopy, surface area and porosity measurements and activity tests...
