Pyrrolo [2,3-b] Pyridines as Potential Anti-Trypanosomal Agents

Abstract

A brief review of African human trypanosomiasis, the disease caused by the protozoa T,b. gambiense and T.b, rhodesiense in man, the classification and the life cycle of these protozoa has been given. The metabolic pathway of glucose, the amino acids threonine, proline, tryptophan, tyrosine and phenylalanine by these two protozoa has been discussed. Control methods of the disease by chemotherapeutic and chemoprophylactic agents as well as the recent research efforts to develop suitable chemotherapeutic agents has been given...
