Chemistry of tellurium applied to rubber

Abstract

A study of tellurium and its compounds in rubber has been carried out by using them as cross linking agents and as ultra-accelerating agents when employed together with a tetraalkylthiuram disulphide. Reactions of tellurium tetrahalides with model alkenes, rubber solutions and solid rubber were employed in order to study the tellurium-carbon bond formation in the media. The formation of black gels was observed with natural rubber solutions when reacted with tellurium tetrahalides (chlorides and bromides). A Mossbauer study was carried out for the black gel obtained with tellurium tetrachloride and natural rubber solutions and the results are discussed...
